Meridian South News Team

  Fred Dinenage
One of the South’s longest-serving broadcasters, Fred’s connections with ITV go back to the 60s and Southern Television, and he has co-presented Meridian Tonight since it first aired in 1993.

Among many television achievements, Fred presented 100 editions of the networked panel game Tell The Truth and 19 series of the children's programme How 2.

A well-known Pompey fan, he fronted ITV’s flagship sports programme World of Sport, was co-presenter for ITV on two Olympic Games and presented golf outside broadcasts for the network.

  Debbie Thrower
Debbie has worked on and off with Fred since TVS days and co-anchored Meridian Tonight when it was launched in 1993.

She is a well-known face on network televison, having presented BBC News, Songs of Praise, and documentaries, as well as regular shows on Radio Two and Radio Four.

And despite having fronted That’s Gardening on ITV, and broadcast from the Chelsea and Hampton Court flower shows, contrary to popular opinion Debbie is not related to Percy Thrower!

  Paul Belverstone
Sports-mad Paul decided on a sports reporting career at 13 or 14 as a better bet than trying to make a living from actually playing sport.

After university, Paul worked his way up in local radio in Wolverhampton before moving to Brighton with Southern FM.

Paul was soon covering Brighton games for Meridian and made the move to a full-time job in television, first in Brighton and then presenting sport in Southampton. Paul’s banter with Fred has been ongoing ever since.
